Environmental materials from Tiong Liong Corporation are developed to promote sustainability by providing recycled polyester from post-consumer based PET products and rapid-regenerated organic compounds.
Our EcoSmart recycled polyester materials reduce the demand for petroleum products and fewer environmental impacts from the processing of the petroleum into virgin polyester.
The following is the EcoSmart recycled polyester manufacturing process:
- Bottle Collection
Empty post-consumer bottles are collected at bottle redemption center operated by the Taiwan government or private recycled programs.
- Baling
The bulky collection of bottles is compressed into compact bales for shipment to Tiong Liong's Ecomax Pet bottle sorter.
- Unpacking and Bottle Sorting
The baled Pet bottles are unpacked and fed through the bottle sorting section. Metal cans, PVC bottles, colored PET bottles, and glass bottles are filtered out by hand.
- Grinding to Flakes and Label Separation
Colorless PET bottles are sent to the size reduction section and ground to 8-10mm flakes. Labels attached to the bottles are also ground to flakes in this stage. Ground labels are removed through a pneumatic separator.
- Flake Washing
In this section the PET flakes are washed in hot dilute alkaline water. The surface layer is hydrolyzed and removed in the wash along with volatile contaminants remaining on the surfaces.
- Flake Drying
The crystallized and dried hot flakes are inserted to vented extruder to produce PET pellets. Then flakes are packaged and sent to the fiber manufacturing plant. Melt spinning to Fiber The PET pellets are melt spun to produce a recycled polyester fiber then sent to the fabric makers.
